HMS Protector explore the forests and waters of South Carolina

During a recent maintenance period in Charleston, South Carolina the ice patrol ship HMS Protector enjoyed some well-deserved adventurous training

Members of the HMS Protector were challenged by activities such as mountain biking, surfing, paddleboarding and trekking as part of the adventurous training package delivered to the ship whilst in South Carolina.

Activities were conducted on spectacular beaches, beautiful winding rivers, deep forests local to Charleston and deep inland across the ‘smokey mountains’.  Many of those taking part also saw diverse wildlife including, bottlenose dolphins, racoons, sea turtles, alligators and even a black bear!

AB Heidi Sermulins said: "Surfing and paddle boarding was really enjoyable. It was great to have a day out of the galley to learn new skills, challenge ourselves physically and mentally, spending time with friends and even catching a couple waves."

The training was planned by the deployable Royal Navy Adventurous Training Team (RNATT) and HMS Protector.
