The organisers of the upcoming Commando Raid event in Arbroath have recently released details of the challenging obstacles participants will face on June 24.
The 6.64 mile course will feature 16 individual obstacles, each named after an historic battle, raid or hero of the Royal Marine Corps.
Obstacles feature famous battles such as 'Normandy Landings', 'Bunker Hill', and 'Trafalgar', as well as less known actions such as 'Walcheren' where British Second World War Commandos captured Walcheren Island in the Netherlands after German defenders put up heavy resistance against UK and Canadian troops.
Among the obstacles runners will need to negotiate are balance beams, monkey bars, trench up and over, tunnels, hay bale pyramids, water slide and cam nets.
Some of the legends of the Royal Marine Corps are also commemorated with Victoria Cross winners Gunner Thomas Wilkinson, Corporal John Prettyjohns, Corporal Walter Parker, Corporal Thomas Peck Hunter and Captain Edward Bamford all having obstacles named after them.
The Commando Raid is being organised by 45 Commando to raise money for the Royal Marines Charity and the Woodlands Garden Trust and will be held at their base in Arbroath.
As well as the demanding obstacle course, there will also be a mini-Commando course for the youngsters.
The Commando Raid event costs £45 to enter with a few early bird tickets costing £35 still available.

RM Condor in Arbroath is home to 45 Commando Royal Marines, part of 3 Commando Brigade.
The site also houses 7 (Sphinx) Battery, part of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, 2 Signals Squadron from 32 Signals Regiment and 30 Commando Information Exploitation Group Royal Military Police Detachment.
