Royal Navy presents annual awards

Plymouth University Technical College (UTC) have held its annual Alumni and Awards ceremony at its campus in Devonport.

There to witness the event were many former students who have now gone on to work in industry.

During the evening the Royal Navy received two awards.

Sub Lieutenant Harrison Redwood received the UTC ‘Governors Award’ for 2018, from Lieutenant Commander Paul Youngman, the (RN UTC Liaison Officer for the region) following his successful commission into the Royal Navy.

Harrison joined UTC Plymouth in 2013 and was the first student to complete his education and gain a commission in the Royal Navy.

Harrison is currently serving at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, in West Cornwall, where he is currently undergoing Aircrew training.

Polly Lovell, Principal of UTC Plymouth said, “It was an amazing evening to catch up with all of our Alumni and celebrate their successes.

“We really value the support and passion from our Royal Navy Affiliation team in engaging with our college. We are so proud of Harrison and his achievement.”

Paul Youngman also received an award himself, the UTC Plymouth ‘Employer Engagement Gold Award’ on behalf of the RN Affiliations Team, for the Royal Navy’s outstanding support to the College in helping inspire and develop engineers of the future.

“The RN’s engagement is key to the employer focused ethos of UTC Plymouth when setting professional standards, careers advice, workplace training and curriculum input”, said Peter Bragg, Head of Employer Engagement and Careers Lead.

“The College is extremely grateful for the continued support and engagement of the Royal Navy.”
