Be a leader

With the right experience and qualifications, you‘ll be able to take leadership of our operations. Showing the way to your junior crewmates on operations all over the world, it’s a life at sea with real responsibility – and the rewards to match.

Make a difference

You‘ll provide the leadership that ensures we‘re there whenever and wherever the Royal Navy needs us. You’ll also be responsible for the development, welfare, morale and ultimately the lives of the people under your command.
As an RFA officer, how far you take your career is in your hands. It depends on what you achieve and the ambition you display. You‘ll start your career as a cadet or lateral entry officer. As you gain experience and prove yourself in the line of duty, you could work your way up the ranks to Commodore – the highest officer rank in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Becoming a qualified officer with the RFA means being a central part of the Replenishment at Sea operations that provide vital support to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, all over the world.

It’s a role that is as rewarding as it is challenging, and from day one you’ll be on your way to a career that’s the ultimate in what working in the merchant navy can be.

If you‘re the kind of person that thrives on responsibility, leading a dedicated and highly-trained team, making the right call at the right time, wearing lots of different hats all at one and never having one the day the same as the last, it sounds like you‘re well on the way to being RFA officer material.
