HMS Belfast

HMS Belfast will be the third of the City Class Type 26 frigates – fast, flexible ships fit for the future. She will enter service in the mid-2020s.

HMS Belfast

Role

The new HMS Belfast is set to enter service in the mid-2020s. She has been designed to deliver manpower and capabilities to meet the challenges tomorrow may bring.

With a truly global reach, Belfast’s missions will be varied: protecting the UK’s strategic interests, our nuclear submarines, and delivering high-end warfighting capability whenever and wherever she is needed.

You may be familiar with the original ship, which now belongs to Imperial War Museums and is permanently docked in London near Tower Bridge. Before the new HMS Belfast commissions, the original will be renamed ‘HMS Belfast 1938’, the year the ship was launched.
