Royal Navy Powerlifting

Powerlifting is a distinct sport from Olympic Weightlifting and Strongman events. Although good technique is required, powerlifting tests raw strength rather than technical ability. It consists of three lifts: Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift.

In powerlifting competition, athletes are categorised by sex, age and bodyweight. Each competitor is allowed three attempts at each lift, with the best lift in each discipline being added to their total. The lifter in each weight category with the highest total is the winner of that weight class. In cases where two or more lifters achieve the same total, the person with the lightest bodyweight wins.
