D-Day 75 commemorations

A service of thanksgiving will be held in Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The event will be attended by Normandy Veterans, Veterans and serving members of the armed forces, VIPs and the public.

Wednesday 5th June: The event will include flypasts from the Red Arrows and historic aircraft, followed by a private reception before the departure of the Royal British Legion’s ship to Normandy - carrying veterans from Portsmouth to Normandy escorted by a flotilla of Royal Navy warships. Once in France, more commemorative events will take place with veterans at the heart of proceedings.

Thursday 6th June 11am: The D-Day 75 Remembrance Service will be held in Southsea, with music from the Band of the Royal Marines.

Friday 7th June 10.30-11.30am: The Portsmouth Music Hub will perform a special composition for D-Day 75, with over 600 local children performing on the stage on Southsea Common.

Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June: The Portsmouth Revival - a weekend of entertainment and activities for all the family featuring music and dancing from the 1940s, arena displays, military and vintage vehicles, exhibitions and displays, a 1940s vintage market, archive and war film screenings.

Saturday 8th June 7.30pm: Sunset Concert for Heroes featuring the Portsmouth Military Wives Choir, the D-Day Darlings and The Royal Marines Association.
