Scottish Commandos gather for annual parade

Royal Marines from Faslane-base 43 Commando recently participated in the Royal Marines Association’s annual parade.

The event was held at the iconic Commando monument at Spean Bridge near Fort William and saw marines from 43 Commando join members of the Royal Marine Band Scotland and family members for a march past and short Service.

Taking the salute was General David Wilson, former Commandant General Royal Marines and now President of the Royal Marines Association, and Corps Regimental Sergeant Major Warrant Officer 1 (RSM) Phil Gilby.  

The Service was conducted by Reverend Peter Garvie 43 Commando’s Chaplain.  

The Commando monument, which dominates the rugged Highland landscape, was originally built to commemorate the sacrifice of those Commandos who served during the Second World War. 

Situated on the training ground of the early Commandos – near the Achnacarry estate – over the years the monument has come to hold a special significance to the Royal Marine Commandos of today. 

After the parade the attendees were invited to the nearby Ben Nevis Hotel in Fort William for lunch and a chance to socialise.

The group also helped raise several hundred pounds for the Royal Marines Charity.
