Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson meets Royal Marines on British Virgin Islands

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has met with Royal Marines on the British Virgin Islands as they continue their support with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief after hurricane Irma struck the Caribbean.

After visiting the hospital, Peebles, on the Island of Tortola, the Foreign Secretary visited members of 40 Commando Royal Marines who have been in the Caribbean since last Friday.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson thanked the Marines for the important job that they are doing and explained that the relief effort would be an extended commitment.

Marine Matt Sharpe said:

"It was reassuring to see the Foreign Secretary out on the ground visiting the local people and chatting to the marines who are working here.”

40 Commando are continuing to support the police with security tasks and are ensuing the safe delivery of vital aid across the island.
