Looking Forward to our future

Topic: PeopleReserves

Over 200 Sea cadets and staff from all over the West Midlands joined the Ship’s Company of HMS Forward recently for an action packed event showcasing everything we have to offer in the Royal Naval Reserves (RNR).

The evening was based around a number of 15 minutes stances showing the different branches of the RNR and offered an insight to what life is like being a Reservist.

Stances included learning about the equipment used in the Diving Branch, doing CPR with the Medical Branch and even adding a little competition with a rocket building stance, which instilled the importance of Command, Leadership and Management within the Forces.

The event kicked off with traditional Divisions ceremony and a welcome brief from the Commanding Officer, Commander Philip Sparke, and ended with some very happy Cadets who had been on a whistle stop tour of HMS Forward.

Members of the ship's company also shared their experience of their adventures on the 'ogin', including Lieutenant McLundie’s time on HMS Ocean deployed to aid with hurricane disaster relief efforts last year.

In all, the Showcase Event was a great success, and was testament to the reservists and permanent staff at the unit, who organised the entire serial.

Now with a strong relationship between HMS Forward and the region’s Sea Cadet Units established, here’s hoping to many more collaborative events in the near future.
