Final preparations are being made for HMS Raleigh to open its gates to members of the public on Wednesday 1 August 2018.
Among the attractions will be the Royal Marines Un-Armed Combat Display team, a Police Dog Display and a junior and senior Field Gun run.
Members of the public will be able to try their hand at drill training.
The open day will include the usual favourites with visitors able to look around the Royal Navy Submarine School to see how sailors are trained to operate beneath the waves.
They will be able find out how recruits are turned from civilians into sailors and take a tour of an accommodation block where trainees live during their 10-week course.
Visitors will also be able to see where sailors learn vital skills in fire-fighting and how to deal with floods at sea using HMS Raleigh’s multi-million pound simulators.
It is hoped that the Royal Navy Raiders Parachute Display team will drop into Raleigh to close the event and a Wildcat helicopter will be on site for guests to take a look inside.
Chefs from the Defence Maritime Logistics School will give visitors a real taste of the Royal Navy with a series of cooking displays.
For younger visitors the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Stables will be offering pony rides. There will be an inflatable play area and a climbing wall.
In addition HMS Raleigh’s physical training staff will be putting on a Ninja Warrior assault course and an interactive martial arts display.
Lieutenant Ross Lyth, the organiser of this year’s event, said: “We are hoping that this year’s Open Day will build on the success of previous events and be a free family day out for all; whether that be youngsters interested in a career in the Royal Navy to local families and those on holiday and veterans who’d like to take a trip down memory lane.
“There should be something for everyone.”
Gates will be open between noon and 5 pm. Numerous and diverse refreshments outlets will be available on site.
A number of charities have been invited to attend. There will also be representatives from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Careers Office.
