HMS King Alfred’s CO thanks Local Supporting Employers for their support

Topic: PeopleRemembrance

The CO of HMS King Alfred was able to thank some of the Southern based Silver & Gold Ministry of Defence supportive employers for their support for Reserve Forces at HM Naval Base Portsmouth and on HMS Smiter.

The support of local employers is essential for UK Reserve Forces and we were delighted to be able to repay their support by hosting some of them for a breakfast briefing at HM Naval Base Portsmouth.

The MoD Supportive employer program recognises organisations that put in place employment policies that support reservists, service families and veterans. Their support is hugely appreciated and in return, they benefit from the skills, training and experience that is provided in the regular and reserve forces.

The day started at the dockyard with a chance for the employers to get to know each other and the HMS King Alfred team over some bacon rolls and coffee. To help set the scene, the Royal Navy Presentation team provided an overview of the Royal Navy today, it’s roles & missions and how these are supported by the Royal Naval Reserve.

It was then over to HMS Smiter and a great opportunity for our guests to see HM Naval Base Portsmouth and HMS Prince of Wales from the water. HMS Smiter may be one of the smaller vessels in the fleet but was an ideal size for hosting and the employers all commented on how impressed they were with the crew and the introduction they provided to how the Royal Navy does its business.

Thank you to NATS, Portsmouth City Council, Serco UK, Clemtech, Mabway & Rushmoor Borough Council for your support of the Royal Naval Reserve. We're very grateful to for the support and opportunities you provide for veterans & reservists. Thank you also to SERFCA for your support.
