A group of teenage girls from Park Community School, Havant visited HMS Sultan recently for some inspirational briefs from Royal Navy women across the site.
The students were brought in to the Establishment by the Girls Network, a charity which supports teenage girls in the local area by providing them with a professional female mentor for a year and practical ongoing career advice.
The girls were briefed on Marine and Air Engineering Training at HMS Sultan and the many different roles being successfully performed by females across the RN and went to see women in the workplace at the Establishment’s Medical Centre and RN Police security section.
In addition, the girls learnt about how the Establishment operates day-to-day from the Executive Officer Commander Kim Mehta.
Today has been amazing, I’ve learnt so much from it all and it’s really opened up my opinion of what the military is about.
Rachel Enenua, 16 said: “Today has been amazing, I’ve learnt so much from it all and it’s really opened up my opinion of what the military is about.
”There are so many different opportunities out there that I could see myself doing, so there’s lots to go out and research further.”
Lieutenant Commander Jen Kedge who organised the visit and mentors for the Girls Network said: “It’s so rewarding to see how visits like today encourage the girls to think differently about themselves and build their confidence in their own ability.
There are so many women performing important roles out there and this is about showing them nothing is beyond their reach if they put their minds to it.”
