HMS Sultan welcomes new Commanding Officer

Sailors and staff at HMS Sultan have welcomed their new Commanding Officer, Captain John Voyce, to the home of Marine and Air Engineering.

Executive Officer, Commander Jules Philo handed over responsibility for the Establishment to Captain Voyce, before the new CO gave an address to personnel from across the site.

HMS Sultan is home to the Defence College of Technical Training's Defence School of Marine Engineering (DSMarE) and the Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival School (RNAESS), part of the Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering (DSAE).

A number of other units reside within the boundaries of HMS Sultan, they include: the Defence Business Services, the Admiralty Interview Board (AIB) and the Nuclear Department which is a component of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, which has its HQ in Shrivenham.

As well as having overall responsibility for all Officers and Ratings training within the Establishment, Capt Voyce also assumes the role of Commandant of the DSMarE.

On assuming Command Captain Voyce said: “I am both honoured and delighted to take on Command of HMS Sultan and the DSMarE.

“HMS Sultan has an excellent reputation for its military ethos and for preparing personnel to operate and maintain the very latest in technology anywhere around the World.

“I look forward to working with all our people to ensure that we remain at the forefront of transformation and an exceptional place to train.”
