Modernising Catering Specialisation

For those interested in joining the Royal Navy as part of the catering specialisation please visit the Royal Navy recruitment page.

For those current serving members of the Royal Navy. A great deal has moved on since the amalgamation of the chef and steward specialisations was announced last year.

“Vesting Day” happened on 1 Feb, a symbolic milestone one day after the cessation of the recruitment of AB(stewards). The “Pioneer” cross-training course to the catering specialisation started at the end of January with the second in February.

There are a series of working groups which meet regularly in Navy Command to discuss all aspects of the future of catering in the Royal Navy.  Each of these meetings include JRs chefs and stewards so your voices are being heard.

If you are alongside and are interested in taking part in one of these meetings, contact us via the Unify mailbox.

Failing that, we are planning focus groups for May in each of the base port areas. These will be open to chefs and stewards employed in other locations such as Air Stations and Royal Marine units.

If you are currently serving as a Chef or Steward in the Royal Navy and you want to know more please get in touch with your career manager.
