HMS Exploit (P167)

HMS Exploit is an Archer-class patrol vessel. She is attached to Birmingham University Royal Naval Unit (URNU) and is primarily used for training undergraduate students in the skills and personal attributes required for a career in the Royal Navy.

HMS Exploit is based at HMNB Portsmouth. She is proud to have affiliations with:

    Our skills

    The crew of HMS Exploit is made up of a permanent staff of five: a commanding officer, two senior
    rates and two junior rates. They can also be joined by up to twelve students accompanied by
    training officers. Together, their roles and responsibilities include:

    • Providing support on Royal Navy and NATO exercises
    • Personal development
    • Leadership training

    HMS Exploit's role

    HMS Exploit is primarily affiliated with the University of Birmingham’s URNU, although it also accepts students from eight other universities in the region, including Loughborough and Warwick.

    As a training vessel, HMS Exploit deploys during the Easter and Summer holidays. During this time, Young Officers and cadets are taken around the UK and further afield to Northern Europe in order to develop the navigational skills and seamanship they’ll need for a Royal Navy career.

    HMS Exploit also undertakes a variety of wider Fleet operations, including supporting Royal Navy and NATO exercises across the world.
