Joint Services Adventure Sailing Training Centre

Welcome to the Joint Services Adventure Sailing Training Centre (JSASTC)

This military sail training establishment is situated on the South Coast in Gosport, Hampshire, based on the historical Haslar Creek just inside the harbour entrance on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour.

The purpose of JSASTC is to develop the character and leadership qualities essential to Armed Forces personnel, through offshore sailing in a Service environment. These objectives are achieved by providing Sail Training Craft (STC), skippers and instructors, and a wide range of training courses. Through this, the centre enables attendees to support and then lead, sail training expeditions in Service yachts in UK waters and abroad.

Operating a large number of training vessels, our training capacity is split between providing AT leader qualification through Type 4 training training at sea, and shore-based theory courses. We also support expeditions which are arranged at Unit, Command, Single Service or Joint Service levels. Some expeditions are led by JSASTC.

Over the last 15 years, expeditions have deployed to the English Channel, Scotland, Scandinavia, the Pacific and South Atlantic, the Mediterranean, Croatia, Bosnia, Italy, Greece, Malta, Caribbean, Panama, Hawaii, the Far East, Estonia, Australia, New Zealand, Sierra Leone, Namibia, South Africa, Ascension, Falkland Islands, South America, Russia and the USA.

When operating at full capacity, the combined total annual throughput of Service men and women for courses and expeditions can exceed 5000 trainees per year.
