Introduction

1. Mariners are advised that the King’s Harbour Master (KHM) Clyde has made the following General Direction under the Clyde Dockyard Port of Gareloch and Loch Long Order 2011.

Restricted Areas

2. The Restricted Areas for Faslane and Coulport, defined in Reference A schedules 2 and 3 respectively, can be used to provide temporary additional safety measures during the movement of a nuclear-powered submarine or large surface vessel near key facilities in the Clyde Dockyard Port of Gareloch and Loch Long.

3. The detailed coordinates of the Restricted Areas are contained within Reference A and marked on BA Charts 2000 and 3746.

4. When the KHM has activated a Restricted Area (see paragraph 5 below), no vessel shall enter, pass through or remain in such area without the permission of the KHM.  Any such unauthorised activity will be regarded as a breach of Reference A. 

Temporary activation of Restricted Areas

5. Temporary activation of the Restricted Areas will be indicated by 3 day/night Fixed Red lights in a vertical line at the following locations: -

For the Faslane Restricted Area:

 

(a) On the roof of KHM Harbour Control, HMNB Clyde.

For the Coulport Restricted Area: -

(a) Barons Point.

(b) Coulport EHJ.

 

6. Arrangements for the temporary restrictions within the Rhu Narrows Restricted Channel are to be found at Reference A schedule 2 paragraph 6.

 

Protected Areas

 

7. Mariners are reminded of the Protected Areas at Faslane and Coulport, contained in Reference B, which are in effect at all times.  In accordance with these byelaws, no vessel shall enter, pass through or remain in any Protected Area otherwise than in accordance with the exemptions contained therein.

8. The detailed co-ordinates of Protected Areas are contained within Reference B and marked on BA Charts 2000 and 3746.
